Great Tips for Planning your Margaret River Wedding

They say that a perfect wedding is a result of combining two things – the right people and a location.

Well, when it comes to getting married in Margaret River, it’s fair to say that you just need to bring the right people because the location is likely one of the most beautiful ones you will see.

It is no surprise that the South West of WA in general and Margaret River in particular has become an extremely popular place for weddings over the years.

Located 270 kms from Perth, Margaret River has the beaches, the wineries, the perfect surfing conditions, and of course, the setting for the perfect wedding.

Whether it’s a winery, a local beach or other location within the region, you can trust that Margaret River has it.

As a wedding photographer, I often get asked my advice regarding wedding locations and what I would recommend.

My answer is always the same; it depends.

You see, every couple is different and you want to plan a wedding that is right for you but if you are looking to get Married in Margaret River, here are a few recommendations.

Booking a Venue

As we said, the area has a large number of options. If it’s a winery you are looking to get married at, you may have heard of Leeuwin Estate or Voyager Estate, but these are just a few of many options of beautiful wineries you can choose from. A great place to start your research would be the visitor centre where you will find a list of great wineries.

If you are looking to get married in a public spot like a beach, Margaret River has plenty of options such as Hamelin Bay Beach, surfers point and hundreds of other beautiful locations.

One thing you would want to keep in mind though. If you are planning a wedding in a public area such as a forest or beach, it is not a matter of just showing up and having a ceremony.

You would need a permit. Getting a permit is not a complicated process and you can do that through the Shire of Augusta and Margaret River Website. The site will also provide you with all the details you need to consider

The Cost and Budget

In one of my previous blogs, I spoke about the cost of a wedding photographer, and very similar to wedding photographers, venues and locations also have a variety of options when it comes to the amounts charged.

Wedding venues in Margaret River can be anywhere between $3k-$20k, so again it all comes down to what you are looking for and what your budget is. To help you narrow down your options, when enquiring with a venue, you can ask them the following questions:

1 – How much does the venue cost?

2 – How long is the event for?

3 – What does it include? (some venues include many details that at the end may save you money, so it is worth finding out)

4 – How many guests can the venue hold

Wedding Suppliers

Because Margaret River is a popular wedding location, there are many options when it comes to wedding decorators, florists and other suppliers. I have worked with numerous over the years and would happily help you find the supplier you are looking for

What Else

You likely already know this, but Margaret River has something for everybody. You can experience some incredible beaches, you can go caving, or you can just enjoy the chocolate factory and wineries. Either way, you won’t regret it.

Last but not least, the area has many accommodation options including hotels, motels, caravan parks, and Airbnb options, for you and your guests. Just be sure to book in advance.
